SingOut is our community performance program. Each year our volunteer singers make up to 50 appearances, from civic ceremonies and neighborhood festivals to benefits for local nonprofits and health organizations.
SingOut appearances have helped raise more than $430,000 for groups including the AIDS Foundation, the Matthew Shepard Foundation and Make-A-Wish.
Since 1978
Showing up is how we started
- 1978 As 25,000 people mourned Harvey Milk and George Moscone at City Hall, the new chorus sang in public for the first time.
- 1981 The first gay group to sing on the U.S. Capitol grounds. Days later, thousands welcomed the chorus home on Castro Street.
- 1982 800 voices sang at Kezar Stadium to close the first Gay Games.
- 1988 Ten years on, about 25,000 people marched to City Hall, and the chorus sang again where it first sang.
- 1989 Arts for Life, a Davies Hall gala for AIDS and cancer groups with Carol Channing and San Francisco Ballet.
- 2004 During the Winter of Love, the chorus sang to couples lined up to marry at City Hall.
- 2013 On the day Prop 8 fell, the chorus sang at City Hall for plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier.
- 2016 After the Pulse shooting, the chorus joined thousands at a Castro vigil.
