On October 23, 2023, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus honored Dr. Betty Sullivan for her extraordinary contributions during her service on the board from 2003 to 2009.
As Co-Publisher and Co-Editor of the San Francisco Bay Times, Dr. Sullivan has also been an invaluable media advocate for the Chorus.
The ceremony included a special award and a performance of “Irish Blessing” in her honor. Watch her award presentation, heartfelt remarks, and the musical tribute as we celebrate a pillar of our community.
A lasting contribution to Crescendo
Dr. Sullivan’s support also helped build one of the Chorus’s major fundraising traditions. The San Francisco Bay Times identifies her and Howard Steiermann as the founding co-chairs of Crescendo, a collaboration that began during their service on the Golden Gate Performing Arts board.
By its 17th annual benefit in 2023, Crescendo raised more than $700,000 for the Chorus. That continuing support gives additional context to this tribute: Dr. Sullivan’s contributions encompass both community journalism and the work of bringing supporters together to sustain the music.
