The Chan National Queer Arts Center proudly hosted Frameline’s Industry Day as part of Frameline50, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the world’s longest-running queer film festival. The event brought together filmmakers, distributors, critics, funders, and cultural leaders for conversations on the future of queer storytelling, financing, distribution, and media criticism, including a keynote discussion between Frameline Executive Director Allegra Madsen and filmmaker Lilly Wachowski.

Industry Day highlighted the power of collaboration across LGBTQ+ arts organizations and reinforced The Chan’s role as a hub for creativity, connection, and community. Congratulations to Frameline on 50 years of championing queer stories and artists.

Part of Frameline’s 50th anniversary

Frameline50 ran from June 17 to 27, 2026. In his San Francisco Bay Times preview, Gary M. Kramer described a program combining new features, documentaries, and shorts with landmark queer films. Opening night returned to the renovated Castro Theatre with a look back through the festival’s history and D’Arcy Drollinger’s “Lady Champagne.”

The festival’s revival screenings included the Wachowskis’ 1996 thriller “Bound,” alongside films such as “Caravaggio” and “Paris Is Burning.” This wider anniversary program gives context to the gathering at The Chan: conversations about the future of queer filmmaking took place alongside a celebration of the artists and stories that helped shape it.
