On July 13, 2022, Dr. Timothy Seelig conducted his final concert as Artistic Director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. Final Words at Davies Symphony Hall was the first time in the chorus’s history that the San Francisco Symphony performed alongside it, with the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir as special guests.
A program that told his story
As BroadwayWorld previewed, the program drew on works Seelig championed, including selections from Andrew Lippa’s I Am Harvey Milk and Unbreakable, Tyler’s Suite, and music from A Chorus Line and The Lion King. His 11-plus years brought the Lavender Pen Tour and Gay Chorus Deep South, the Artists Portal at the National AIDS Memorial Grove, the purchase of 170 Valencia Street, and the RHYTHM youth program.
A day in his honor
KTVU reported that Mayor London Breed joined Seelig on stage, and the San Francisco Bay Times noted she declared July 13, 2022, Dr. Timothy Seelig Day. Seelig was named Conductor Laureate, and Jacob Stensberg was introduced as his successor.
“the final program couldn’t reflect my career any better.”
