For the 1998 holidays, a celebrated guest took the podium.

“Songs of a Wintry Fairyland”

The Bay Area Reporter’s Mark Norby wrote that Joseph Jennings, music director of Chanticleer and artistic director of the Golden Gate Men’s Chorus, would guest-conduct the chorus in “Songs of a Wintry Fairyland,” music for both Christmas and Hanukkah, on December 12 and 13, 1998, at the Masonic Auditorium. He was filling in for Stan Hill, the chorus’s artistic director and principal conductor for ten years. Jennings promised music that acknowledged everyone, and a special closing number.

“No one throws a holiday concert like the chorus.”

— chorus executive Patty Lockhart, as quoted by the Bay Area Reporter

On Christmas Eve came “Home for the Holidays” at the Castro Theatre, with shows at 5, 7 and 9 p.m. and every ticket $10. Tickets were sold at chorus headquarters at 400 Castro, the former Bank of America building, and online at sfgmc.org.
