Vance George served as an SFGMC guest conductor in 1985. Under his direction, the Chorus performed the West Coast premiere of Richard Strauss’ Die Tageszeiten at Davies Symphony Hall in September, a significant addition to its concert repertoire.

George is director emeritus of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, which he led for more than two decades. His work with that ensemble earned four Grammy Awards and an Emmy, and he has also taught and mentored choral conductors.
